"The whole issue of clearing the property will start in sequence when we have the permit in hand," he said.

The developer requested a permit for demolition of the 1890s Queen Anne Victorian home April 27, according to village Communications Director Doug Kozlowski. The village had 10 business days to answer the request and responded Friday – the 10th day.

Community members tried for months to save the house. Downers Grove resident John Tillotson offered up his property for the home's relocation, but recently pulled out of the effort, citing the tight deadline set by the developer.

The village council offered Tillotson a 10-year, interest-free loan to cover the cost of the move. Tillotson originally turned down the deal, but later accepted it in April when he realized it was the only way to save the house.
